【大成報記者蕭宇廷/臺中報導】中央研究院7日揭曉第33屆19位新科院士暨名譽院士名單，其中「數理科學組」彭仁傑、「生命科學組」施明哲、唐堂3人，皆為東海大學校友，校方為此感到榮耀與驕傲。校長張國恩表示，中研院院士為學術最高榮譽，東海過去已有11位傑出校友獲得院士榮耀，如今再添3位、累績至14位院士，不僅打破東海紀錄、更是國內私立大學之最；未來將邀請傑出院士返回母校擔任學術講座，並推動辦理東海中研院院士系列演講。

中研院第33屆桂冠加冕的19名新科院士中，東海畢業校友就佔3位、比例高達15%，而「生命科學組」6位新科院士、東海校友就佔2位，比例超過3成，東海成就絲毫不輸國內頂尖大學。

而這次東海獲選新科院士的校友，包括「數理科學組」的新科院士彭仁傑為東海大學第12屆物理系(1970年畢)傑出校友，畢業後前往美國深造，獲得美國匹茲堡大學物理研究所博士，目前為伊利諾州立大學香檳校區物理系教授，同時為美國Los Alamos國家實驗室院士，美國物理學會院士，2020年獲聘教育部「玉山學者」，中研院物理所學術諮詢委員及特聘講座，在高能物理領域卓越研究成果備受肯定。

「生命科學組」新科院士施明哲為東海大學第18屆生物系(1976年畢)傑出校友，畢業後赴美深
造獲美國愛荷華大學遺傳博士，歷任愛荷華大學生物系助理教授-教授 、愛荷華大學比較基因體中心主任、中央研究院農生中心特聘研究員兼主任、中央研究院秘書長，目前擔任中研院特聘研究員兼中研院南部院區籌備委員會主任委員 (2017-迄今)，施明哲建立精準育種平台，推展農業技術，在全球暖化與氣候變遷培育抗逆境的農作物，將過去需要10-15年育種時間縮短到3-5年。

「生命科學組」新科院士唐堂為東海大學第20屆生物系(1978年畢業)，畢業後赴美深造獲得耶魯大學遺傳學博士，現為中研院生物醫學科學研究所特聘研究員，專長為分子細胞生物學、人類遺傳學，他一直專注大腦發育的研究，並專研小頭症之研究，努力開啟罕病的治療方式。

除了東海畢業的新科院士，東海大學過去畢業的中央研究院院士包括于君方(第1屆外文系)、林南(第2屆外文系)、于寬仁(第2屆化學系) (2022年5月18日於美國辭世)、杜維明(第3屆中文系)、錢嘉陵(第7屆物理系)、孫康宜(第8屆外文)、鄭永齊(第8屆化學系)、吳春放(第11屆生物系)、何德仲(第13屆化工系)、劉鴻文(第16屆化學系)、吳仲義(第18屆生物系)，共有11位，加上第33屆新科院士後，累積成為中研院院士的總人數高達14位。

此外，東海並有國外院士，包括杜維明(第3屆中文系)榮膺「美國藝術與科學學院院士」、孫康宜(第8屆化學系)榮膺「美國藝術與科學學院院士」、何德仲(第13屆化工系)榮膺「美國工程學院院士」及姚仁喜(第17屆建築系)榮膺「美國建築師協會榮譽院士」。張國恩校長對這些東海傑出校友能獲得海內外院士感到肯定，他強調能獲得海內外院士的榮耀桂冠實屬不易，說明過去東海的校友在大學至博士求學階段都以兢兢業業的態度學習，學成之後不僅在學術上持續鑽研，更將研究成果貢獻社會，如今獲得社會與國家的肯定，得以成為東海師生與學弟妹的學習楷模，他計畫邀請這些在各領域有傑出貢獻的院士返校擔任學術講座，並辦理系列演講，期待社會各界與學弟妹們能親自感受這些傑出院士的不凡表現。
